I took a Continuing Ed class about the art of illustration one summer because I was debating whether or not I wanted to pursue my MFA in Illustration. This class definitely pushed me in that direction, and this was one of the assignments I was given.
We were told to make a spread for a children’s book. I referenced by piece from the story The Green Ribbon from the book In a Dark, Dark Room written by Alvin Schwartz and illustrated by Dirk Zimmer. It was one of my favorite books as a kid, and I wanted to depict the final climax of the story.
At the time, I was trying to figure out how to make final digital pieces that I was happy with. To me, this is a mixed success but it helped me realize how much I love pattern work. Made digitally with Photoshop.
